Dan HarenWho needs a designated hitter? Not the Arizona Diamondbacks; or at least not when they have Dan Haren on the mound. Haren made hitting look easy on Friday night when he single-handedly took on the Toronto Blue Jays. Haren gave up four solo home runs in an 8-6 victory, but contributed to his own cause on the offensive side by cracking a pair of doubles – one after faking a bunt – and driving in three runs.

David WrightWhat the heck is going on with David Wright? Going into Thursday’s games, he has 55 strikeouts, which leads the Major Leagues and has him on pace to finish in the top 10 in baseball history for the most strikeouts in a season, which, by the way, is almost 80 more strikeouts than he’s had in a season in his career. Is there something wrong with Wright, or is he just going through the worst slump ever?

Simon GagneAt first glance, a seventh versus eighth seed series in the Eastern Conference final could make you scratch your head. But if you don’t know the story about how the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens became the final two teams in the east, then obviously you’re not a hockey fan. With an identical point total of 88 at the end of the regular season, to have expected either of these teams to be alive at this point would have been crazy, yet here they are, and they’ll battle for the rights to play for Lord Stanley’s Cup starting next Monday night. But who has done the more unthinkable?

Tim ReddingThe Yankees have added some more depth to their system, as they signed free agent Tim Redding to a minor league contract. That’s right, the same Tim Redding who woke up as a member in the Colorado Rockies organization, was released outright and went to bed waiting for his name to be stitched onto the back of a Yankees uniform. It’s not the traditional way to see a player switch allegiances, but as long as he still has a job, Redding surely won’t complain.

Mike CammalleriWith yet another Game 7 road victory to clinch a series against one of the toughest teams in hockey, can anybody seriously stop these surging Habs? The one-time Cinderella Canadiens have now become the team to beat. Anything less than a Stanley Cup victory for Montreal may actually be seen as an upsetting finish now that they have brushed off both Ovechkin’s Capitals and Crosby’s Penguins. They’ll face either Philadelphia or Boston in the third round.

Roy HalladayRoy Halladay won’t be going back to Toronto afterall. Blue Jays president and CEO Paul Beeston announced on Tuesday that the series between Toronto and Philadelphia on June 25-27 has been moved from Rogers Centre to Citizens Bank Park, due to the G20 summit being held literally next door to the Rogers Centre on the same weekend. Rumors have been swirling about the possible schedule change for month, and now that it has become official, it has become the number one sports story in the city.

Nicklas LidstromAfter 19 years in Detroit, is Nicklas Lidstrom finally ready to call it a career? With the Red Wings’ elimination from the playoffs on Saturday night, another season came to a close for the Swedish defenseman, and at 40 year old, some are wondering if there’s anything left in the tank for the All-Star blue-liner. Should he ride off into the sunset after a disappointing second-round exit, or should extend him career for one more year to try to lead the Wings and prove their dynasty is not dead?

Travis Moen & Martin SkoulaVancouver lays an egg and Philadelphia survives to battle another game. Pittsburgh squeezes a win out of Montreal and San Jose ousts Detroit in five games. It’s just more of the same incredible stories in these NHL playoffs. Regardless of who has been playing on any given night, this playoff season has not been short on storylines. As the second round of the postseason winds down, it’s easy to forget that there’s still a full two series left to play.

Tuukka RaskWaking up after another ridiculous impact game from Jaroslav Halak as the Canadiens evened up their series with the Penguins last night at two games apiece, I quickly realized that I had no idea that the other series in the Eastern Conference, Philadelphia against Boston, is even going on. After taking a quick look, I found that Boston holds a 3-0 stranglehold on the Flyers with a chance to clinch tonight. I also found that I’m not alone in my ignorance over this series.

Zack GreinkeThe woes of Zack Greinke are nauseating. The 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner, who finished last season with a 16-8 record and a miniscule 2.16 ERA, is having more than his share of troubles finding his name in the win column of the morning papers. The Kansas City Royals have already fallen 8.5 games back in the AL Central with an 11-17 record, and not even their star right-hander has been able to limit the damage in support of his club.
